He replied: “I have served under that flag for forty years, and I won’t do it.” Conway was arrested and put in irons. A short time later he was sent north, to Brooklin, NY. where he remained till his death. In August of 1906 in Camden, Maine, the State and America’s Great White Fleet, honor him with a huge bolder and plaque in the town of his birth.</image:caption>
